DOG CONTAINMENT SYSTEMS WIRE GUIDE

When using a non-wireless containment system, you may have some addition questions and concerns. Perhaps you are unsure of how much wire you are going to need or do not know what type of wire would work best for you. Here we have address those concerns.

How Much Do You Need?
Before buying additional wire for your new dog containment system, be sure to check how much wire and what type of wire is included in your kit. If you already know the size of your yard, just follow the wire guide below.

What type of wire to use?
Only use burial approved boundary wire. This is very important. Since this wire is going to be outside and exposed to the elements, a long lasting waterproof Polyurethane coated wire with a solid copper core is vital.

18-gauge vs. 20-gauge wire
Many dog containment systems use a 20-guage wire. If you wish to use an 18-guage wire with your system, we do offer a Wire Upgrade option that can be purchased with any of the systems we sell. A 20-guage wire is perfect for smooth and loose soil, for lying next to a fence, and if the yard has little vegetation and few trees. An 18-guage wire is ideal for rocky soil, when installing above ground, and for a yard thick with trees and vegetation.
